Voices of Europe – Spotlight Romania: Ioan Nani

Voices of Europe – Spotlight Romania: Ioan Nani

In 2025, we became part of a dynamic new European movement – WeAreEurope – that unites professionals around a shared mission: to uphold the core values of the European Union and actively shape a fairer, greener, and more democratic future.

Our contribution began with the promotion of the first post-Omnibus CSRD survey. Today, we continue that commitment by highlighting voices from our Sustainable Romania Coalition, sharing their perspectives on life and work in the EU—and how they integrate business responsibility into their strategies.

Discover the vision of Ioan Nani, CEO & President of Antibiotice SA, in the following short interview, produced in partnership with Voices of Europe:

What does Europe mean to you?

Europe represents a shared responsibility for health, solidarity, and sustainable development. For us at Antibiotice, it’s a space where our mission, to ensure access to critical medicines, aligns with European values such as equity, strategic autonomy, and support for high-quality local pharmaceutical manufacturing.

How does Europe show up in your work and daily life?

Europe is embedded in every aspect of our work, from compliance with EU GMP standards to the partnerships we build across the continent. A concrete example is the €25 million InvestEU loan from the European Investment Bank, which supports a new production unit aimed at improving supply security for both essential and critical medicines. This reflects Europe’s commitment to resilience and preparedness.

What do you love about Europe?

We value Europe’s commitment to strengthening public health systems, especially through its efforts to secure the availability of critical medicines. Initiatives such as HERA (Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority) show a forward-looking and collaborative approach, one that we support by expanding our portfolio of critical medicines and reinforcing regional supply chains.

What kind of future do you envision for Europe?

We envision a Europe where local production of essential and critical medicines ensures resilience in the face of crises. A future in which access to treatment is equitable, and sustainable practices reduce environmental impact while enhancing public health. Through continued investment and alignment with EU objectives, we aim to play a key role in shaping this future.

How can companies effectively communicate the impact and benefits of responsible business practices to build long-term value for clients, partners, and investors?

By showing the full picture with clarity, courage, and commitment. Our Integrated Annual Report outlines the strategic steps we’ve taken, like securing the InvestEU loan to increase the availability of critical medicines. But it’s our Sustainability Statement that tells the deeper story – a comprehensive view of who we are, what we stand for, and how we respond to the world around us. From climate and circular economy to ethics, governance, and community impact, this declaration isn’t just a report, it’s a reflection of our responsibility and our role in society. When companies lead with substance, not slogans, they earn trust. And that trust becomes long-term value.

What approaches can corporate responsibility teams take to inspire senior leadership to embrace responsible business practices as a strategic opportunity for growth and innovation?

By clearly demonstrating how responsible practices translate into strategic benefits: access to funding, increased production capacity for critical medicines, enhanced reputation, and talent retention. At Antibiotice, we’ve seen that aligning business growth with social purpose, particularly in areas like health resilience, drives both innovation and long-term competitiveness.
